This Week in Washington


Senate: The Senate continued processing nominations, including Frank Bisignano to be Commissioner of the Social Security Administration. They passed Congressional Review Acts H.J.Res.61, to rescind the Environmental Protection Agency rule regulating hazardous air pollutants from tire manufacturing, S.J.Res.13 to rescind the Department of Treasury rule revising procedures for reviewing applications for proposed bank mergers, S.J.Res.7 to rescind the Federal Communications Commission rule permitting schools and libraries participating in the E-Rate program to purchase discounted Wi-Fi hotspots for off-premises use, and H.J.Res.60 to rescind the National Park Service rule prohibiting off road and all-terrain vehicles on 24 miles of roads at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

 

House: The House passed the Department and Homeland Security Restrictions on Confucius Institutes and Chinese Entities of Concern Act (H.R.881) and the Gulf of America Act of 2025 (H.R.276)


Trump Administration: On May 5, President Trump signed an Executive Order entitled “Regulatory Relief to Promote Domestic Production of Critical Medicines.” The order aims to facilitate the restoration of domestic manufacturing for prescription drugs and their ingredients.



Next Week in Washington


Senate: The Senate will reconvene Monday, May 12 and will continue processing nominations, including Chief of Protocol at the Department of State, Legal Adviser of the Department of State, Secretary of the Air Force, Deputy Secretary of Interior, and Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources.

 

House: The House will reconvene Tuesday May 13 and will consider the Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act (H.R.2240), the LEOSA Reform Act (H.R.2243), and the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act of 2025 (H.R.2255)
