Retirement & Pension
Williams & Jensen has represented state and local governmental retirement plans for a quarter century. Our attorneys have assisted the plans stay up to date on proposed and recently enacted changes to federal tax law which could bear on the plans’ qualified tax status. Throughout this time, Williams & Jensen also has represented private sector retirement plans governed by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), both single-employer and multi-employer plans.
Over the years, this work has involved meetings with Members of Congress and Congressional staff, officials of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Department of Labor, and the Internal Revenue Service, and other interactions with the federal government, such as drafting comment letters on proposed regulations and developing new legislative proposals.
Our attorneys have served in leadership roles of leading U.S. and international pension groups, such as the National Association of Public Pension Attorneys and the International Pension & Employee Benefits Lawyers Association. We also are active in the American Bar Association. Williams & Jensen is a member of the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems (NCPERS) and the National Council on Teacher Retirement.
Our attorneys are frequent presenters at national and international conferences and webinars and have written numerous articles on federal legislative and regulatory matters that affect retirement plans.
Williams & Jensen also provides fiduciary counsel to public pension clients, including in-person training of board trustees and preparation of ethics materials. We provide training at a national level through the NCPERS Accredited Fiduciary Program.
