Senate: The Senate continued processing nominations. They passed three joint resolutions to terminate the national emergencies to impose global, Brazilian, and Canadian tariffs. The Senate has now failed 13 times to reach the 60-vote threshold to pass legislation to provide short-term government funding.
House: The House was in recess.
Trump Administration: On October 29, President Trump announced a trade deal between the U.S. and South Korea. The deal includes the lowering of automobile export tariffs from 25 to 15 percent and requires South Korea commit $350 in new investments into the U.S. exchange. Additionally, following a meeting with Chinese President Xi, the U.S. and China announced a 10 percent reduction in tariffs on Chinese goods, relief on rare earth limitations imposed by China, a one year pause on export controls by the U.S., and the Chinese purchase of U.S. soybeans over the next several years.
Next week in Washington
Senate: The Senate will reconvene Monday, November 3 and is expected to continue consideration of short-term legislation to fund government operations and reopen the government. They are also expected to continue processing nominations.
House: The House is expected to be in recess and return once the Senate passes the government funding package.
