Senate: The Senate continued processing nominations over the weekend including Under Secretary of Agriculture for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs, National Cyber Director, Chief Financial Officer for the Environmental Protection Agency, Assistant Secretary of the Army, Federal Transit Administrator, Attorneys for the Southern District of Florida and the District of Columbia, and Ambassadors to the European Union, the Holy See, and the Portuguese Republic. The Senate also passed several bills including the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, and Legislative Branch Appropriations Act, 2026 (H.R. 3944).

 

House: The House was in recess.

 

Trump Administration: On August 6, President Trump signed an Executive Order imposing a 25 percent tariff on India. The Order is in response to India importing and reselling Russian crude oil. Additionally, on August 7, President Trump signed an Executive Order entitled “Democratizing Access to Alternative Assets for 401(k) Investors” and an Executive Order entitled “Guaranteeing Fair Banking for All Americans.”
