Senate: The Senate was in recess.

House: The House was in recess.

Trump Administration: On August 26, President Trump signed an Executive Order entitled Declaring a National Emergency to Secure the United States Bulk-Power System. The Order declares a national emergency to protect the reliability of bulk-power system electric equipment from interference by foreign actors. 

Next week in Washington 

Senate: The Senate is in recess and will reconvene Monday, September 14. 

House: The House is in session and will reconvene Monday, August 31. They are expected to consider the Protecting Domestic Mining Act (H.R.1501), the Northeast Lobsterman Protection Act (H.R.9436), the Protect Economic and Academic Freedom Act (H.R.4795), and H.Res.1490, a resolution condemning and denouncing socialism. They are also expected to consider a bill to continue funding the government through December 11.
