This week in Washington
Senate: The Senate continued processing nominations, including Kevin Warsh to be Chair of the Federal Reserve. The Byrd Bath for the immigration enforcement reconciliation bill to fund CBP and ICE began.
House: The House passed the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act (E-15) (H.R.1346), the Cashless Bail Reporting Act (H.R.5625), the Keeping Violent Offender Off Our Streets Act (H.R.6260), the Monitor Accountability Act (H.R.8365), and a Resolution expressing support for law enforcement officials (H.Con.Res.96). They also passed the FY27 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs government funding bill (H.R.8469).
Trump Administration: On May 11, President Trump signed S.98, the Rural Broadband Protection Act of 2025, into law. The new law directs the Federal Communications Commission to enter into the rulemaking process to vet applicants for high-cost universal service program funding for the deployment of broadband.
Next week in Washington
Senate: The Senate will reconvene Monday, May 18. They are expected to continue processing nominations, including confirmation of 49 Executive Branch and judicial nominees, en bloc through S.Res. 690. There is expected to be a vote-a-rama and consideration of the reconciliation bill.
House: The House will reconvene Wednesday, May 20. They could consider the reconciliation bill if passed by the Senate.
