This week in Washington
Senate: The Senate continued processing nominations and passed Congressional Review Act H.J.Res.140, rescinding a Bureau of Land Management rule withdrawing acres of National Forest System lands in Cook, Lake, and Saint Louis Counties, Minnesota, from mineral and geothermal leasing for 20 years. By unanimous consent, they passed a 10-day FISA extension. They failed to pass a War Powers Resolution on the war in Iran and joint resolutions on foreign military sales to Israel.
House: The House passed the RED Tape Act (H.R.6398), the FENCES Act (H.R.6409), and a resolution expressing support for tax policies that support working families (H.Res.1156). By unanimous consent, they passed a 10-day FISA extension after the bill to extend for five years failed to pass. They failed to pass a War Powers Resolution on the war in Iran.
Trump Administration: On April 15, President Trump signed nine “Presidential Permits.” The Permits give permission to permittees to operate and maintain existing pipeline Border facilities at the border between the U.S. and Canada.
Next week in Washington
Senate: The Senate will reconvene Monday, April 20, and continue processing nominations. They could bring a budget resolution to the floor as soon as next week for a reconciliation package to fund ICE, Customs, and Border Patrol.
House: The House will reconvene Monday, April 20 and is expected to consider the American Broadband Deployment Act (H.R.2289), the Reliable Federal Infrastructure Act (H.R.4690), the Harnessing Energy at Thermal Sources Act (H.R.5587), the ESA Amendments Act (H.R.1897), and a Resolution expressing support for rural communities across the United States as stewards of the environment, major suppliers of United States energy resources, critical providers of food production and manufacturing capacity, and drivers of national economic stability (H.Res.1182).
