This week in Washington

Senate: Following a vote-a-rama, the Senate passed S.Con.Res.33, the FY26 Budget Resolution, kicking off reconciliation to fund ICE and Customs and Border Patrol. They continued processing nominations and failed to pass a War Powers Resolution on the war in Iran.

 

House: The House passed the Reliable Federal Infrastructure Act (H.R.4690), the Harnessing Energy at Thermal Sources Act (H.R.5587), and a Resolution expressing support for rural communities across the United States as stewards of the environment, major suppliers of United States energy resources, critical providers of food production and manufacturing capacity, and drivers of national economic stability (H.Res.1182).

 

Trump Administration:  On April 20, President Trump signed a Presidential Determination that the U.S. exempt Air Force jet fighter training operations in Idaho, Oregon, and Nevada from certain water regulations. The Determination grants these training operations a one-year exemption from many Clean Water Act Regulations.

Next week in Washington 

  Senate: The Senate will reconvene on Monday, April 27, and is expected to continue processing nominations. They could begin consideration of FISA reauthorization.

 

House: The House will reconvene Monday, April 27, and is expected to consider the Farm, Food, and National Security Act (Farm Bill) (H.R.7567), Stopping Indoctrination and Protecting Kids Act (H.R.2616), the FY26 Budget Resolution (S.Con.Res.33), and FISA Reauthorization (S.1318). They could consider the government funding bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security, excluding ICE and CBP.
