This week in Washington
Senate: The Senate was in recess.
House: For the second week in a row, the House failed to consider bills pursuant to a rule. This week, the House was not able to consider the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (H.R.8800). Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) said that she and some other Republicans would not vote for any rule (allowing House bills to move to the floor) unless the Save America Act (H.R.7296) was attached to the must-pass NDAA bill. Luna and 12 of her colleagues ultimately voted against the rule containing the NDAA, but some gave other reasons for their vote, such as the border policies that have not enacted into law.
Trump Administration: On June 29, President Trump signed a memorandum entitled Lowering the Cost of Living by Promoting the Freedom to Fix. The memorandum directs the Environmental Protection Agency to make it easier and cheaper for Americans to fix their own vehicles.
