Senate: The Senate began consideration of the fiscal year (FY) 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) (S.2296).

 

House: The House passed the FY26 Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act (H.R.4553). They also passed Congressional Review Acts H.J.Res.104, H.J.Res.105, and H.J.Res.106 to rescind Bureau of Land Management rules modifying land use plans for the Miles City Field Office, the North Dakota Field Office, and Central Yukon.

 

Trump Administration: On September 4, President Trump signed an Executive Order implementing a trade agreement between the U.S. and Japan. The Order implements a baseline 15 percent tariff on nearly all Japanese imports while Japan will invest $550 billion into the U.S.

 

Next week in Washington 

 

Senate: The Senate will reconvene on Monday, September 8 and is expected to continue considering the NDAA and processing nominations.

 

House: The House will reconvene on Monday, September 8 and is expected to consider the FY26 NDAA (H.R.3838) and the Stop Illegal Entry Act of 2025 (H.R.3486).
