Senate: The Senate passed the Laken Riley Act (S.5) and confirmed Marco Rubio as Secretary of State and John Ratcliffe as CIA Director with others possible later on Friday or over the weekend including Pete Hegseth to serve as Secretary of Defense and Kristi Noem to serve as Secretary of Homeland Security.
House: The House passed the Laken Riley Act (S.5) and the Fix Our Forest Act (H.R.471)
Trump Administration: On January 20, Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States. Throughout the week he signed dozens of Executive Orders (EOs) including Declaring a National Emergency at the Southern Border, Declaring a National Energy Emergency, and Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit Based Opportunity.
Next Week in Congress
Senate: The Senate is expected to continue processing nominations including Scott Bessent for Secretary of Treasury and Sean Duffy for Secretary of Transportation. They are expected to consider the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act (H.R.23)
House: The House is in recess and will reconvene on Tuesday, February 4.
