Senate: The Senate continued processing nominations and passed H.J.Res.142 disproving of actions of the Washington D.C. Council rule changing how income and franchise tax law align with the federal Internal Revenue Code. They failed to pass a government funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and a shutdown will begin on February 14 at midnight.

 

House: The House passed the Undersea Cable Protection Act (H.R.261), the Law-Enforcement Innovate and De-Escalate Act (H.R.2189), the SAVE America Act (S.1383), and the Securing America’s Critical Minerals Supply Act (H.R.3617). They passed H.J.Res.72, a joint resolution seeking to end Canadian tariffs.

 

Trump Administration:  On February 11, President Trump signed an Executive Order entitled, Strengthening United States National Defense with America’s Beautiful Clean Coal Power Generation Fleet. The Order directs the Department of War to prioritize Power Purchase Agreements with America’s clean coal fleet to ensure military installations have uninterrupted, on-demand baseload power.

Senate: The Senate is in recess and will reconvene on Monday, February 23. They are expected to consider the DHS government funding bill.
