This week in Washington 01.30.26

Senate: The Senate began consideration of the remaining government funding bills including Defense, Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development, Financial Services and General Government, State Department, and Homeland Security. They have until January 31 at midnight to reach a funding deal before a partial government shutdown begins.

 

House: The House was in recess.

Trump Administration:  On January 29, President Trump signed an Executive Order entitled, Addressing Addiction through the Great American Recovery Initiative. The Order directs a national response to respond to addiction across the government, health care, faith communities, and the private sector.

Next week in Washington 

 

Senate: The Senate is expected to reconvene Monday, February 2. However, if a funding deal is not reached, they could stay in session through the weekend.

 

House: The House will reconvene Monday, February 2. They may need to consider the government funding package depending on the actions of the Senate. The House is expected to consider the Critical Mineral Dominance Act (H.R.4090), Resolutions to hold Bill and Hillary Clinton in contempt of Congress for failing to appear before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee over the Epstein files, and Joint Resolution H.J.Res.142 disproving of actions of the Washington D.C. Council rule changing how income and franchise tax law align with the federal Internal Revenue Code.
