Senate: The Senate passed the government funding package for Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies, Energy and Water Development, and Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies (H.R.6938).
House: The House passed a government funding package for the Financial Services and General Government and National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs bills (H.R.7006). They passed the Protecting Prudent Investment of Retirement Savings Act (H.R.2988) and the SHOWER Act (H.R.4593).
Trump Administration: On January 14, President Trump signed an Executive Order entitled, Adjusting Imports of Processed Critical Minerals and Their Derivative Products into the United States. The Order directs the Secretary of Commerce and U.S. Trade Representative to negotiate agreements with trade partners to address the national security threat to the importance of processed critical minerals.
Next week in Washington
Senate: The Senate is in recess and will reconvene Monday, January 26. They are expected to consider the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act (S.3627) and begin consideration of the remaining government funding bills.
House: The House will reconvene Tuesday, January 20 and is expected to consider the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act (H.R.6945), the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act (H.R.6359), and Congressional Review Act H.J.Res.140 to rescind a Bureau of Land Management Rule withdrawing federal lands in Minnesota from mineral leasing. They could also consider the remaining government funding bills including Defense, Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development, and Homeland Security.
