This Week in Washington


Senate – The Senate passed S. 1871, the Intergovernmental Critical Minerals Task Force Act, which would require multi-lateral government cooperation with covered countries for critical minerals. Additionally, the Senate passed S. 4698, the Department of Homeland Security Joint Task Forces Reauthorization Act of 2024.

 

House – The House passed H.R. 4790, the Guiding Uniform and Responsible Disclosure Requirements and Information Limits Act of 2023,  H.R. 3724 Accreditation for College Excellence Act of 2023, and H.R. 9106 the Enhanced Presidential Security Act.

 

Biden Administration – The Department of Energy announced today $3 billion in projects to advance battery manufacturing and mineral processing, while the Department of Defense and Commerce have made significant contributions to domestic mining and rare earth elements. This includes a $2.26 billion investment in Nevada’s Thacker Pass lithium mine, critical for EV production, and substantial commitments to rare earth magnet production.

 

Next Week in Washington

 

Senate – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer signaled that next week includes nominations and may also consider government funding.

 

House – The House will reconvene to consider government funding legislation along with a hearing on Oversight of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
