After serving as a law clerk during law school, George Olsen became an associate at Williams & Jensen in June 1975, was made a principal in January 1978, and was elected President of the firm in 2004—a position which he held until May 2021. He became Of Counsel to the firm in the Summer of 2022. For over 40 years, Mr. Olsen’s primary concentration has been health law, representing pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, health insurance and managed care organizations, rehabilitation agencies, hospitals, and other health care providers, as well as businesses affected by federal health care legislation and regulation. He has also handled antitrust, education, and administrative law issues. Mr. Olsen was recognized as one of Washington’s top lobbyists by The Hill.
Mr. Olsen has been involved with virtually every major health care legislative initiative over the last four decades including numerous budget reconciliation bills (COBRA, OBRA, DEFRA, TEFRA, etc.); the Medicare Catastrophic Coverage Act of 1988; the Food and Drug Administration Modernization Act of 1997 and all subsequent drug user fee reauthorizations; the Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003; the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act; the 21st Century Cures Act; the Pandemic and All Hazards Preparedness Act of 2019, and multiple measures concerning the COVID pandemic. In addition, Mr. Olsen has represented clients in the rulemaking and oversight proceedings resulting from these laws and assisted them in complying with new health care policies and requirements.
Mr. Olsen also represented clients testifying before Congress or under Congressional investigation including pharmaceutical companies, manufacturing companies, hospitals, and insurers.
In the antitrust field, Mr. Olsen has helped defend companies in lawsuits and investigations alleging various forms of anticompetitive and deceptive conduct, advised clients on compliance issues, and worked on numerous antitrust policy initiatives.
On education matters, Mr. Olsen has counseled accreditation and certification organizations on a variety of compliance, regulatory, procedural, corporate, and litigation matters.
Mr. Olsen holds an “AV” rating from Martindale-Hubbell (Very High to Preeminent Legal Ability, Very High Ethical Standards).
He is a member of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia.
