Congressional Oversight & Investigations

Williams & Jensen has successfully represented clients in Congressional investigations and oversight matters for over thirty years. While acquiring decades of experience in this area, the firm has cultivated extensive Capitol Hill contacts and worked with virtually every Congressional Committee on these issues. Our many bipartisan relationships enable us to deal effectively with the often sensitive nature of House and Senate investigations. The head of this practice group served as Senior Counsel to the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, which provides Williams & Jensen with an insider's view on how Congressional investigations work and how to ensure you are prepared if you become a target of such an investigation.

Each member of the Williams & Jensen team involved in a Congressional investigation or oversight matter has specialized knowledge and contacts in a relevant practice area, and we apply those strengths on our clients' behalf. This mix of policy expertise and congressional investigation experience provides unparalleled benefits for our clients. Moreover, it provides our client's management and boards of directors with sound legal judgment that enables the client to manage the results of the investigations internally and externally.

Historically, Williams & Jensen has represented clients in a broad array of Congressional investigations, most recent examples include money laundering, Medicare fraud, and prescription drug and blood safety matters. We have also served as counsel in a House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform investigation into a highly publicized merger. We have represented clients who have testified before Congressional Committees as well as those who have satisfied congressional inquiries through a more informal route.

Another facet of our oversight practice is the representation of several House Members and Senators before the Office of Congressional Ethics and the Senate Ethics Committee.

We provide both formal and informal assistance, whether in responding to congressional document requests and subpoenas, drafting testimony for hearings, developing a public relations strategy and providing counsel on all aspects of the investigation and its implications. We treat each congressional investigation not as a political or government relations matter exclusively, but also as a public relations and legal challenge. We will assist in successfully ensuring you are prepared for the potential of high stakes consequences.

Please contact us for more detailed information on this practice group.
