Williams & Jensen is actively engaged in helping the Executive branch departments and agencies develop immigration policies and programs, and in representing clients involved in immigration and border control issues. Our involvement in this arena is built on the firm’s longstanding legislative work before the House and Senate Judiciary Committees, which have jurisdiction over immigration law, and Executive Branch departments and agencies that implement the law.
Informing immigration law developments, and advising clients on them Particularly signficant because of the dynamic nature of immigration law, the firm serves as a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s task force on immigration and border control matters, Americans for Better Borders.
In addition, we are involved in a wide range of Federal immigration initiatives that, while predominantly related to Executive Branch departments, often include a Congressional component as well. The firm is capable of calling upon its extensive base of contacts in Congress to provide input to regulatory agencies on these matters. Among the issues we have been deeply involved in are:
- An administrative review of the State Department’s summer work/travel program
- Consular processing
- Development and introduction of biometric standards and screening equipment for air and rail travel
- Visa waiver cases for individual clients
- Import rules on cargo for ocean carriers
- Rules related to the rights of landowners along our national borders vis-à-vis law enforcement access to their property
